Fisher Wells create a range of panels and tools for artists. Their work centres around using traditional materials with the benefit of modern technology.

Made in Melbourne by artists for artists, they have been producing art materials for sale for over a decade.

TRADITIONAL GESSO PANELS: Fisher and Wells apply a traditional gesso ground made from gelatine glue (also known as hide glue) and English whiting (calcium carbonate). A unique, beautiful, intensely receptive surface that has qualities that no acrylic ground can match. The fine grain, the absorbency and control that a genuine gesso can give is quite unparalleled. Traditional Gesso is an absorbent ground so it takes marks well making it most ideal for drawing & silverpoint techniques, however it can be successfully used for watercolour, drawing inks, pastel and charcoal.

Fisher Wells also manufacture French cleats, an elegant panel hanging solution.

SEAMLESS PAINTING PANELS: Innovative manufacturing process and unique registered design. The lightweight design ensures the panels are dimensionally stable & geometrically accurate, with a virtually invisible joint between the painting face & cradle. Created as a solution to the inherent problems with current commercial panels. Cradled or chassis panels generally use thin veneer plywood glued to a timber frame. Wood expands and contracts along its grain. In some circumstances this can cause cracking and delamination of paint films over time. Fibreboards don’t have this grain problem. By making the entire panel from one piece of board, expansion and contraction rate issues are resolved.
