Lead Tin Yellow Pigment

Opaque bright slightly greenish-yellow pigment.

Chemical description: Lead stannate (Pb₂SnO₄).

Excellent opacity and stability in oil, tempera, and fresco. Widely used from the Renaissance through the 18th century but fell out of favour as modern yellows became available. It is chemically stable and lightfast, though acidic conditions can affect it.
